"We received the verbal permission from the international federation (International Federation of Gymnastics) yesterday. Documents were sent to IOC (International Olympic Committee) yesterday as well. That’s why I think the official document on allowing (athletes to compete at Olympics) will be issued today," Makarov said.
Three Russian gymnasts were allowed to compete at the upcoming Olympics - Dmitry Ushakov, Andrey Yudin and Yana Pavlovaa.
On Sunday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) held a meeting of its executive board to discuss possible blanket ban of Russian athletes at the Rio Olympics. The IOC executive committee decided not to ban the Russian team. Individual decision on Russian athletes will be taken by relevant international federations.
