GENEVA, July 26. /TASS/. The World Rowing Federation (FISA) has confirmed on Monday that Russian rowers Ivan Podshivalov, Ivan Balandin and Anastasia Korabelshchikova will not take part in the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Earlier, head of the Russian Rowing Federation Veniamin But told TASS that Podshivalov, Balandin and Korabelshchikova will be disqualified and Russia will not compete in women’s eight at Rio as Korabelshchikova was member of the team.
On Sunday, the International Olympic Committee held a meeting of its executive board to discuss possible blanket ban of Russian athletes at the Rio Olympics. The IOC executive committee decided not to ban the Russian team. Individual decisions on Russian athletes have been referred to relevant international federations. Apart from that, the IOC ruled than no Russian athlete who has ever been sanctioned for doping will be allowed to take part in the Rio Olympics, even if they have served the sanction.
