LONDON, July 7. /TASS/. World’s No.1 female tennis player Serena Williams of the United States advanced to the final of the Wimbledon Tournament on Wednesday after defeating in straight sets Russia’s Elena Vesnina (6-2; 6-0).
It was for the first time in Vesnina’s professional career to play in the semifinal stage of the prestigious Grand Slam Tournament in London, which offers this year a total of 28.1 million British pounds ($36.6 million) in prize money up for grabs.
Serena Williams will clash for the tournament’s title on Saturday against the winner of another semifinal encounter between Germany’s Angelique Kerber and Venus Williams.
