MOSCOW, June 5. /TASS/. Russia’s 2012 Olympic Champion in high jump Anna Chicherova told TASS on Sunday recheck of her B sample taken during the 2012 Olympic Games in London showed negative results for doping.

Chicherova, the 2012 Olympic champion and a bronze medalist of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, is suspected of violating anti-doping regulations at 2008 Games.

"At my lawyer’s request, I was informed that the samples [taken during the 2012 Games] had been rechecked and tested negative. As for the Beijing Olympics, the situation has not changed - we are waiting for June 8," Chicherova said.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) informed the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) that following mass re-tests of doping samples collected at the 2008 Summer Olympics in China, a total of 14 Russian athletes showed positive results for taking banned substances.

The opening of Sample B probes of the 14 athletes was initially scheduled for May 31 and June 1.

Chicherova was among the 14 Russian athletes accused by the IOC of taking banned performance enhancing drugs. In fact, she was the only one to confirm that one the positive doping tests belonged to her.

Chicherova said in an interview with TASS earlier that she had asked to postpone unsealing of her B sample from the 2008 Olympics for June 8.

The IOC Executive Board met for a special session on May 17 discussing efforts of stepping up the fight against the drugs cheats and provide measures to protect clean athletes ahead of the Olympics in Rio.

Following the session, the IOC announced that a total of 31 international athletes competing in six different sports could be barred from the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro over violations of anti-doping regulations.

According to the IOC, 454 doping samples from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 were selected for retesting. The world’s governing Olympic body also pledged to retest some 250 samples from the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games will be held in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro between August 5 and 21.
