ROME, May 29. /TASS/. Spain’s Real Madrid football club in a penalty shootout beat Atletico Madrid in the final match of the UEFA Champions League and won the tournament for the 11th time. The match was held at the San Siro stadium in Milan, which seats 80,000 spectators.
The match and extra time ended in a draw - 1:1. The penalty shootout was won by Real - 5:3.
Sergio Ramos had given Real Madrid the lead after just 15 minutes, with the Bernabeu club far the stronger side during the first half. But Diego Simeone’s introduction of Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco at half-time changed the game. The Belgian winger scored the equalizer with eleven minutes to go, but it would have been the winner had Antoine Griezmann not slammed a penalty against the crossbar earlier. Both sides had chances in a tired period extra time but neither could land the killer blow, taking us to penalties. Juanfran was to be the heartbroken man, rolling his spot-kick against the post and setting up Ronaldo to seal his third Champions League win.
