LOS ANGELES, March 7 /TASS/. Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova has told a news conference in Los Angeles that banned drug Meldonium had been found in her 2016 Australian Open doping test.

She said that the International Tennis Federation had informed her in a letter a week before that she had failed her drug test.

"I made a mistake and I take on full responsibility for it," Sharapova said.

President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev told TASS Maria Sharapova would be able to play at the 2016 Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro despite her positive doping test.

"I think that it’s nonsense. Athletes take what their physiotherapists advise them. I believe that Sharapova will still have a chance to play at the Olympics though we will see how things are going to develop," Tarpishchev stressed.
