MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin greeted participants in festive events devoted to the 2nd anniversary of the Winter XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Games on the Winter Sports Day on Sunday, February 7, the Kremlin’s press service said.
The greeting reads:
"First of all, I would like to greet the Olympic athletes and fans of all generations on the Winter Sports Day, which we celebrate for the second time now.
"This holiday may be called national as winter sports are very popular in Russia. In many regions, thousands of people of all ages, professions and hobbies go skiing, skating, play hockey, go down alpine routes. From amateur sports grew our outstanding champions, whose triumph we witnessed at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2014.
"Exactly two years ago the Olympic flame went on in Sochi. All the country had been preparing for the event, and we are proud to have organized the best Olympic Games in history. We made unique sports facilities, modern transport, resort and leisure infrastructures. Thanks to that devoted work the Winter Games were organized at that highest level and left the unique heritage, which the people will be using for many years on. One of the examples is the Sirius educational center in Sochi, which finds and educates talented children from all over the country.
No doubt, the Winter Sports Day will become a good tradition, will always remind of our ‘home’ Olympic Games, will unite all fans of the physical culture and sports in the name of the noble objectives of promoting in the society of healthy, active lifestyles.".
