MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. Lokomotiv Moscow football club has cancelled its winter training session in Turkey following Tuesday’s downing of a Russian warplane by the Turkish air force, the club's press service said on Friday.
"We have decided to follow recommendations of the Russian Football Union, the Foreign Ministry and the Tourism Agency and cancel winter training sessions in Turkey for security reasons and in the wake of recent events in the region," a statement said.
The Russian Football Union and Sports Ministry have asked football clubs not to attend their training camps in Turkey. A number of Russian clubs have decided to follow these recommendations and find an alternative country for winter sessions.
The Crimean Football Union said on Thursday the peninsula could provide training grounds for at least 16-18 clubs who decide against going to Turkey.
