MOSCOW, November 22. /TASS/. Brazilian goalkeeper of Russia’s Lokomotiv football club, Guilherme Marinato, has been granted Russian citizenship, FC Lokomotiv president Olga Smorodinskaya told the Match TV television channel on Sunday.
"We have received the Russian passport. Guilherme is a Russian citizen now," she said.
"He has been living in Russia for seven years. He wanted it," she said. "The country should be proud when such athletes want to be Russians. This is not the case when after playing a little bit in the country a sportsman wants to naturalize. He really wants to play in the national team."
Guilherme Alvim Marinato, or simply Guilherme (born 12 December 1985), has been playing for FC Lokomotiv since August 2007. Since then, Lokomotiv won the Russian Cup in 2015 and bronze medals of the Russian Football Premier League in 2014.
