MOSCOW, October 21. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised Prince Albert II of Monaco, who is a patron of the World Olympians Association, that Russia will facilitate the promulgation of the traditions of the Olympic movement.

"Thank you for taking part in and facilitating the organization of an Olympian event (the inaugural World Olympians Forum TASS) in the Russian capital," Putin said at a meeting with the Prince.

"We remember that you supported Sochi's bid for hosting the Winter Olympic Games," he said. "We promised you then we wouldn't let your expectations down and hosted the Olympics. We'll continue doing our best to assist the promulgation of Olympian traditions in this country and all over the world."

He said the Year of Monaco in Russia, the program of which featured more than 140 various events, was a good reason for a meeting with Albert II.

The Prince said on his part he was glad his visit took place at the same time as the World Olympians Forum, which he said was an important event for the history of the Olympian movement and, on top of that, for Russia as it gave an opportunity to re-enact the moments that he enjoyed so much at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. Also, it underscored the values constituting the essence of the Olympian movement.

He said whole world appreciated the level, at which the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi had been organized.

This year, the Year of Russia is held in Monaco, Albert II said calling it a very successful event that became a key event of the year for Monaco. Its opening ceremony was attended by many world-famous personalities, he indicated.

On December 17, the closure of the Year of Russia in Monaco will be marked with a grandiose music festival, Albert II said. He added he hoped the Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky would attend it.

December 17 was chosen as the date for the official closure ceremony as it coincided with an economic forum in Monaco where President Vladimir Putin was expected to take part, the Prince said.
