MOSCOW, August 1 /TASS/. The name of the Russian football team’s new senior coach will be known on Friday, Russian Sport Minister Vitaly Mutko, who is also a candidate to the post of president of the Russian Football Union (RFU), told TASS on Wednesday.
"I am going to name the new senior coach on Friday," Mutko said.
Last week, Mutko said there were two candidates to fill the vacancy, including Leonid Slutsky, the head of the Central Army Sports Club (CSKA), and Alexander Borodyuk. Mutko told TASS last Tuesday that he had decided who would be the team’s expert but refused to give his name.
The Russian Football Union terminated a contract with the national team’s former senior coach, Fabio Capello, on agreement reached by the parties in July.
The Russian football team will play its next match against Sweden in the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers in Moscow on September 5.
