MOSCOW, August 5. /TASS/. Football teams representing east Ukraine's two self-proclaimed republics of Luhansk and Donetsk (LPR and DPR) will take to the pitch for the first time against each other at Donetsk on August 8.
"The match will take place thanks to the work of Donetsk Football Union," DPR Sports Minister Mikhail Mishin told reporters at a Donetsk News Agency briefing on Wednesday, pointing to the body set up last month and headed by former Ukraine national team player Igor Petrov.
Plans are in hand to launch a Donetsk football championship cup next year. "We are preparing. First steps are taken and the process has begun," Mishin said.
