NEW YORK, May 27. /TASS/. The US Justice department on Wednesday announced the arrest of seven high-ranking officials of the International Federation of Football Associations in Switzerland. charged with racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering.
"Swiss authorities in Zurich arrested seven of the defendants charged in the indictment, the defendants Jeffrey Webb, Eduardo Li, Julio Rocha, Costas Takkas, Eugenio Figueredo, Rafael Esquivel and Josй Maria Marin, at the request of the United States," the department said.
The Swiss Federal Office of Justice earlier reported the arrest of six FIFA officials who arrived in Zurich for a congress, where current FIFA president Sepp Blatter is expected to be elected for a fifth term.
