MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/. The 2017 World Boxing Championship may be held in Sochi, the venue of the 2014 Winter Olympics, the head of the Russian Boxing Federation said on Monday.
"We have met with AIBA [International Boxing Association] President Ching-Kuo Wu to discuss this possibility. Everyone wants Sochi to host the championship. I think there will be no objections," Yevgeny Sudakov said.
He said that the final decision would be made in October.
The tournament has never been held in modern Russia since the Soviet Union hosted the championship in 1989.
The 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championship will be held on Doha, Qatar on October 5-18.
