VIENNA. March 10. /TASS/. The European Handball Federation (EHF) has decided to postpone the EHF Euro 2016 qualification match between Russia and Ukraine from April 28 to June due to complicated political relations between the two countries, the EHF said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The EHF as the governing body of European handball is giving top priority to the safe and secure carrying out of matches with a minimum influence of political issues and definitely not offering any possibility whatsoever to any party outside of handball to use our sport for non-sport related interests," the EHF said.
Russia and Ukraine are rivals in Group 5, which also includes Hungary and Portugal.
The championship will be held in Poland in January 2016.
