The playoffs of the European championship will be held in France between September 5 and 20 next year, while the group stage matches will be also hosted besides France by Croatia, Latvia and Germany.
Ukraine was officially selected to host the EuroBasket-2015 in December of 2011, when it was announced that the championship would be held in the Ukrainian cities of Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Lviv and Odessa.
However, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced in June that the championship would not be held in Ukraine due to the unstable political situation in the former Soviet republic and the lack of financing for the venues selected to host the matches.
Following the decision of FIBA a total of eight countries expressed their readiness to host the championship and they were France, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Israel, Latvia, Turkey and Poland.
A total of 24 national teams will be vying for the title of the 2015 European champions and they are Spain, France, Lithuania, Croatia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Serbia, Greece, Turkey, Finland, Estonia, Israel, Poland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Italy, Russia, Germany, Macedonia, Georgia, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Iceland.
