The 24-year-old Russian athlete completed the 20 km distance in Zurich in 1 hour 27.56 minutes leaving her closest contender Lyudmyla Olyanovska of Ukraine 11 seconds behind and with the silver medal.
The bronze went to Anezka Drahotova of the Czech Republic.
Alembekova’s gold was the fifth medal for the Russian team at the 2014 European Athletics Championships held in Zurich between August 12 and 17. In the first two days of the tournament Russia already collected one silver and three bronze medals.
