SOCHI, March 11. /ITAR-TASS/. The 7,000-seat Shayba Arena was packed with roaring spectators almost to the full capacity as the 2014 Paralympic Games sledge ice hockey match between hosts Russia and the United States kicked off.

Fans in the arena stands are flying the flags of Russia and constantly chant ‘Rossiya! Rossiya!,’ however there are also many fans waving flags of the United States.

This is the first Paralympic Winter games for the Russian sledge ice hockey team. In two previous games Russia lost to South Korea 2-3 and then creamed the Italian team 7-0.

Group B top seed the United States, who are the two-time Paralympic champions, already punched its ticket to the semifinals after a 3-0 over South Korea on Sunday.
