MOSCOW, February 19. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia's parliamentary upper house Speaker Valentina Matvienko has praised organization of the Sochi Olympics as an enormous success for Russia and the Russian president, thanking athletes, volunteers, fans and TV commentators for creating a special atmosphere and arousing patriotic feelings.

“We proved that we can do it, creating best-ever conditions in Olympic history for sporting contests, athletes’ accommodation and organization,” Matvienko said on Wednesday.

“Everyone who has attended the Games has expressed admiration for the conditions created there,” she added, noting the important role played by volunteers.

“Volunteers, young people both polite and attentive" had contributed to generating the atmosphere, Matvienko said, applauding fans and athletes for their will to victory, TV commentators who “let the Olympics enter every home” and "the huge success of our president”.

She expressed confidence that the forthcoming Paralympic Games would reach the same standard, promising that a Federation Council upper house delegation would support athletes demonstrating abilities even greater than the able-bodied.
