KEMEROVO, February 18. /ITAR-TASS/. Family of Russian skier Alexander Bessmertnykh, who has won the silver medal as a member of the country’s skiing team in 4x10km relay race at the Winter Olympics in the southern Russian city of Sochi, will receive one million rubles.
A Kemerovo company, in which the wife of the athlete works, will allocate the monetary prize, the press service of Kemerovo regional authorities reported on Tuesday.
The monetary prize is expected to be spent to improve housing conditions of the family. Bessmertnykh has earlier received an interest-free loan to buy housing without initial contribution for 20 years.
Meanwhile, Bessmertnykh will receive a two-million-rouble prize from Kemerovo regional authorities.
Skiers from this Russian region have become medalists of the Winter Olympics in ski races only once in Grenoble in 1968.
