SOCHI, February 17. /ITAR-TASS/. An Olympic ice dance free skating competition has started in Sochi.
Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White, the 2013 world champions, are leading after the short program (78.99 points); Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, the 2010 Olympic champions, are second, losing 2.56 points to the American duet.
Russian ice dancers Elena Ilyinykh/ Nikita Katsalapov are third (73.04). A French duet and compatriots Yekaterina Bobrova/Dmitry Solovyov will be their chief rivals for the bronze medal.
Meryl Davis and Charlie White won the teams’ short and free skating events last week. The Canadians were second.
The two Russian duets Bobrova/Solovyov and Ilyinykh/Kastsalapov were third in the short and free programmes, respectively.
