SOCHI, February 14. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin might attend an Olympic ice hockey match between the Russian and US teams on Saturday.
The Russian head of state returned to Sochi on Friday. He visited the Olympic part and called at the USA House, a meeting place for US athletes and their families. One of the subjects for discussion was ice hockey. “Naturally, we will be rooting for our team but we know that many of our athletes are playing for NHL,” Putin said. “You can take it from me, there are many fans here who know and love American ice hockey players.” When asked whether he planned to attend the Saturday match, Putin said, “Maybe I will come.”
He thanked the United States for its support to Sochi’s Olympic bid. “I remember how warmly our Olympic bid was met in Guatemala by US representatives. We remember that and we are thankful to our American friends for their support,” Putin said.
According to the Russian president, the U.S. national team at the Sochi Olympics looked very strong. “I think Americans are showing very good results,” he noted.
