SOCHI, February 13. /ITAR-TASS/. Chinese speed skater Hong Zhang won gold in ladies’ 1000m at the XXII Olympic Winter Games in the southern Russian resort of Sochi.
Hong finished in 1 minute 14.02 seconds.
Ireen Wust (1:14.69) and Margot Boer (1:14.90), both from the Netherlands, secured the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Russia’s Olga Fatkulina (1:15.08) came fourth, Yekaterina Shikhova (1:17.01) — 15th, Yuliya Skokova (1:17.02) — 16th, and Yekaterina Lobysheva (1:17.31) — 20th.
Hong was born in Heilongjiang, China, on April 12, 1988. She twice won the Asian Single Distances Championships in 1000 m.
