SOCHI, February 13. /ITAR-TASS/. China’s speed skater Li Jianrou won Sochi Olympics gold on Thursday in Short Track ladies’ 500 meters, held at the Iceberg Skating Palace in Russia’s Sochi.
The short track event is a relatively young Olympic competition as it was included in Winter Games program in 1992 at the Olympics in Albertville, France. Short track at Winter Olympics is dominated by teams from Asia and North America. South Korea won most of the medals since 1992 and has 37 medals, including 19 golds.
Li Jianrou’s first place brought China the first gold medal at the current Winter Olympics held in Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Sochi between February 7 and 23.
