MOSCOW, February 12. /ITAR-TASS/. Figure skating champion in the Sochi Olympics Yulia Lipnitskaya has committed a feat in the Russian Olympic city of Sochi and deserves a title of merited master of sport, President of the Russian Figure Skating Federation Alexander Gorshkov told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
The Russian Ministry of Sports awarded Lipnitskaya, her partners in the Olympic figure skating team (Yekaterina Bobrova, Yelena Ilyinykh, Nikita Katsalapov, Fedor Klimov, Dmitry Solovyev and Ksenia Stolbova), who won the Olympic gold medal in the team competition, with a title of merited masters of sport. Other three gold medallists Yevgeny Plushenko, Maxim Trankov and Tatiana Volosozhar were awarded with this title much earlier as much more experienced and titled athletes.
“What Lipnitskaya did is a feat,” he noted. “Perhaps, she can be called a hero of Russia, and she certainly deserves a title of merited master of sport. Yulia bears high responsibility and load in Sochi,” he added.
The head of the federation said with hope that the 15-year-old figure skater would cope with avalanche of media attention on her, as Lipnitskaya will compete in the singles at the Sochi Olympics. “Do not forget that the Olympics continue and the Figure Skating World Championships will be held in Japan late in March. I hope that Lipnitskaya will succeed to cope with all difficulties and mostly important is that she will manage to resist information shower on her. I ask her coaches to bar Yulia from talks with journalists as much as possible. An adult can hardly adapt to conditions in which Lipnitskaya happens to be, and what can be said about the 15-year-old girl. But I wish Yulia luck in the singles with all my heart. She is already a great girl,” Gorshkov added.
