SOCHI, February 12. /ITAR-TASS/. Around five thousand performing and entertainers from all over Russia have gathered in Sochi, the Black Sea resort host of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Anna Pisarskaya, the head of the Sochi-2014 Organizing Committee’s Culture Department, told a briefing on Wednesday.
Over the past four years, thousands of entertainers from all Russian regions demonstrated their skills at a so-called Sochi Cultural Olympiad - a cultural version of the Games, held both in the host city and throughout Russia. The cultural program began back in 2010 and featured a great number of different cultural events, including concerts, festivals, shows, films, exhibitions, and art installations, each contributing all the very best that Russia’s culture has to offer.
“We have gathered in Sochi the best performing companies, the most brilliant and eye-catching ones,” Pisarskaya said. “They are performing at numerous Sochi venues, in the Olympic Park and the mountain cluster. Altogether there are more than five thousand performers of different genres in Sochi at the moment. There have been 144 various cultural events held up to now, with 92 groups participating in them.”
Pisarskaya noted that the extensive entertainment programme in Sochi would also involve foreign performers.
