Russian figure skating pair leads after short program

SOCHI, February 11. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian figure skating pair Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov leads after short program at Sochi Olympics. They have set a world record scoring 84.17 points.

German duo Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy came second with 79.64 points, and another Russian pair Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov rank third with 75.21 points.

Russia’s Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov rank eighth (69.66).

The pairs’ free skating program is scheduled for February 12 beginning at 15:45 GMT.

Russia’s figure skating team has won gold medal in team competition. This became Russia's first gold at Sochi Olympics. Brilliant performance of 15-year-old Yulia Lipnitskaya secured Russia's victory in advance, before the ice dancing free program ended.

All Russian figure skaters won the team events, except the ice dancing pair event, where Yekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Solovyev were third in short program, and Yelena Ilyinykh and Nikita Katsalapov ranked third in free ice dance skating program.
