SOCHI, February 11. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian women’s hockey team beat Japanese squad in second round of Olympic tournament group stage. The match finished with a 2:1 score (1:0, 0:0, 1:1).
Russians Tatiana Burina (12th minute) and Alexandra Vafina (52nd minute) delivered the pucks that led to victory. Japanese Ayaka Toko also delivered a puck on the 41st minute.
In another match of the same group German hockey players lost to Swedish team 0:4.
Russian and Swedish squads gained 6 points each and achieved to reach the quarterfinal before the group stage’s end. Teams of Japan and Germany will compete for 5th to 8th ranks.
Playoff pairs will be decided after the group stage. In the final round February 13, the Russian team will play against Sweden.
In Group A, teams of Finland and Switzerland entered the quarterfinals.
