MOSCOW, February 11. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian speed skater Olga Fatkulina wins silver in 500 m race.
South Korean speed skater Lee Sang Hwa won the gold medal. Margot Boer of The Netherlands came third.
Olga Fatkulina was born January 23, 1990 in Chelyabinsk. She is winner of the 2013 World Championships in 1000 m distance and bronze winner of the same championship in 500 meters. In this season, she climbed the podium four times at World Cup series in 500 meters, and came first in Berlin. At her debut 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, she was 20th in 500 m and in 1000 m.
Fatkulina started to engage in speed skating since she was in third class at school at the Spartak stadium in Lidia Skoblikova school (Chelyabinsk), where she continues training until now. She became junior world champion in 2009 in Poland’s Zakopan in separate distances (500 m). At the same tournament, she became two-fold bronze winner in 1000 m and 1500 m.
She is four-fold Russia’s champion in sprint all-round. Fatkulina began performing at World Cups in 2009/2010 season. She climbed the podium in adult competitions at World Cup series in Harbin in 2012/2013 season, becoming third in 1000 m. In this season, Olga won in Berlin World Cup series in December 2013.
