MOSCOW, February 10. /ITAR-TASS/. Dutch speed skater Michel Mulder wins gold in men's 500 meter race (69.31 seconds after two runs). Jan Smeekens (69.32) from the Netherlands came second. Ronald Mulder, the champion's brother, came third (69.46). Thus, athletes from the Netherlands occupied the podium, like their fellow countrymen did in the 5000 meter race.

Denis Koval came 13th, showing the best result among Russian athletes.

Michel Mulder was born February 27, 1986. He is World Championship silver medalist in 2012 in 500 meter and two-fold world champion in sprint. He is also winner of this season's World Cup in Berlin. He is a teacher in his native Zwolle.

With the sweeping podium victory in speed skating the Dutch national team went to the top of the 2014 Sochi Olympics medals count boasting the total number of seven medals (three gold, two silver and two bronze medals).
