SOCHI, February 10. /ITAR-TASS/. Each match at the Winter Olympics in the southern Russian city of Sochi is determining for the Russian ice hockey team, President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation Vladislav Tretyak said at the Sochi airport on Monday after arrival of a charter flight with Russian ice hockey players from the National Ice Hockey League (NHL).
In reply to a question whether the fact that Russian full ice hockey squad had gathered only on Monday will cause a problem, Tretyak said, “All guys are professionals. What about the teams of the United States and Canada? They will also engage in a battle on the ice in two days.
“The first match is the most difficult period, as acclimatisation comes on the third day after the flight. Therefore, it is important to play well in the starting game, engage in the competition and win compulsorily. I know it for myself that you are feeling sleepy on the third day after a flight across the ocean. Meanwhile, not only a match with Slovenia is important for us. Absolutely each Olympic match is decisive as a final match.”
“Sometimes people arrive and get out from the airplane sad,” the president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation added. “But today is not the case. All guys have an Olympic mood, everybody is merry and keeps smiling. They will participate in a daily training, won’t they? I would not like to reply for coaches. After such flight guys should take some rest. And then coaches will decide who will go on the ice or who won’t. If I had been a coach, I believe I would have said to guys to go for a training session,” Tretyak said.
In the words of Tretyak, a larger part of NHL mercenaries arrived in the city of Sochi. “I talked to goaltenders Varlamov and Bobrovsky. Both of them are prepared to engage in a battle on the ice right now. Most guys arrived. Nichushkin is expected to arrive, I did not see Yemelin and Markov yet. But today everybody will arrive, do not worry about it.”
Tretyak noted that Datsyuk’s condition does not cause any concerns, “I had a brief conversation with him. He said that everything is perfect.
