US snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg Saturday won the first gold medal of Sochi 2014

US snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg won the first gold of 2014 Games with a result of 93,50. 
Staale Sandbech of Norway won the silver with 91,75, and Mark McMorris of Canada got the bronze with 88,75.

Russian athlete Alexey Sobolev didn't get into the finals. He finished 20th.

Slopestyle originated as a snowboarding competition, but has developed many forms since. This year slopestyle, both snowboarding and skiing, was added to the list of Olympic events. In slopestyle, athletes perform difficult tricks while getting the highest altitude off jump.
