MOSCOW, February 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the choice of Sochi as a venue for the Olympic Winter Games was a right decision.
“The idea of holding the Olympic Games in Sochi was born as far back as the late 1980s in the Soviet Union, it was suggested by the specifics of this region,” Putin said in a documentary “The Philosophy of the Soft Way” aired by the Russia 1 television channel. “It is rather warm downhill, while high in the mountain snow lies practically till May and the weather is very soft, so to say, Alpine-like.”
This climate is very comfortable for winter sports, he noted. “So, there is nothing unusual, crazy or silly about this idea. On the contrary, it was a right decision: two clusters - the upper and the lower,” he added.
Putin pins high hopes on heritage of the Sochi Olympics to serve to people for centuries.
“I would like that we will confirm the quality of everything that has been created and everything that we have built will serve to people for centuries,” the president said in the documentary The Philosophy of the Soft Way that is being aired on TV channel Rossiya-1.
“This is the main dream,” he added.
