SOCHI, February 06, 21:20 /ITAR-TASS/. Russia occupied the second ranking in the team figure skating tournament at the Sochi Winter Olympic Games after men’s short program Friday.
The Russian team was represented by the renowned figure skater Yevgeny Plushenko who got 91.39 points (the athlete’s best result throughout his career) and earned nine scores for the Russian team.
The best result was shown by Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan (97.98 points, ten scores). Patrick Chan of Canada was third with 89.71 points (eight scores).
The tournament was continued after a technical break by pairs. Saturday, February 8, the short program will be performed by ladies and ice dancers.
Yevgeny Plushenko is the Olympic Champion of the 2006 Games in Turin and silver medalist of the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City and 2010 Games in Vancouver. Also, he is a three-times world champion and a seven-times champion of Europe.
