SOCHI, February 06, /ITAR-TASS/. The Olympic torch relay race is on its home straight: the second day of the 2014 Olympic symbol’s stay in the host city of Sochi will be the most representative in terms of the team of torch bearers.
At 11:00 Moscow time on Thursday, the Olympic torch will be welcomed at the railway terminal by Olympic champion figure skater Tatiana Navka. She will hand it over to her partner, Olympic champion Roman Kostomarov. The torch will be carried along Sochi’s central Gorky and Navaginskaya Streets. After that, the torch will be carried via the Moremoll trading centre, along Tchaikovsky, Constitution, Neserbskaya, Ordzhonikidze, Chernomorskaya Streets to the circus and back to the Winter Theatre.
The final lap of the Olympic torch relay will involve about 350 torchbearers, among them Secretary-General of the United Nations Organization Ban Ki-moon, President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, Hero of Russia pilot-cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, CEO of Russia’s biggest bank Sberbank German Gref. President of the Sochi-2014 organizing committee Dmitry Chernyshenko will round off the Olympic Flame’s two-day stay in the Olympic capital.
The Olympic Flame arrived in Sochi on Wednesday to be taken to the Orlyonok all-Russia children’s centre, the settlement of Lazarevskoye. After a ride on an observation wheel, it was carried by a special train to Adler and to the alpine skiing resort Rosa Khutor, where it was welcomed to residents of the settlement, numerous tourists and athletes.
The Olympic Torch relay-race will end in the Olympic Park with the lighting of the Olympic Flame Bowl at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games. The ceremony will begin at 20:14 Moscow time on February 7.
