MAKHACHKALA, January 27, /ITAR-TASS/. About 20 bikers and a guard of horsemen will bring the Olympic Torch from the airport to the site of the relay-race, the Anzhi-Arena Stadium, Olga Gorlova, a member of the working group of the organizing committee for the preparation of the Olympic Torch relay-race in the Republic of Daghestan, told Itar-Tass.
"Bikers from the Motobrothers club and representatives of the equestrian school of the town of Kaspiisk, clad in accordance with the ethnic traditions of the peoples of Daghestan, will bring the Torch from Uitash airport to the Anzhi-Arena. In order to avert any hindrances along the way, traffic police will cut off motor traffic along the entire route from the airport to the stadium where the relay-race proper will take place. The festival will end with a concert to be given by the best performing groups," Gorlova pointed out..
The symbol of the Sochi Olympics will be brought to Daghestan from Astrakhan by a special plane. Sixty-seven torchbearers -- sportsmen, science people, poets, writers, politicians, and ordinary workers -- as well as 67 volunteers will take part in the Olympic Torch relay-race.
Zagalav Abdulbekov, famous sportsman in the past, Olympic winner in free-style wrestling in Daghestan, will be the first in the republic to carry the Torch. Khadzhimurat Magomedov, winner of the Olympic Gamesin of 1996 in Atlanta, will carry the Torch in conclusion of the relay and together with the Head of the Republic will participate in lighting the Olympic Flame in the bowl.
From Daghestan, the Olympic Torch will on the same day proceed on its way to the capital of the Karachai-Cherkessia Republic.
