PYATIGORSK, January 23. /ITAR-TASS/. Cossack songs have been performed, a traditional Russian loaf of bread and local mineral water of famous brands have been served to welcome the Olympic Train which arrived in Pyatigorsk on Thursday to bring the Olympic Torch to the city.
"The best sportsmen and the best people in our city will carry the Olympic Torch. Quite soon all of us will wish luck to the Russian Olympic team. I think our sportsmen will win thanks to our overwhelming support," Pyatigorsk Duma Speaker Lyudmila Pokhilko told the Olympic ceremony.
The Olympic procession headed by a group of young girl drummers moved onto a square outside the railway station where many people gathered to watch the ceremony. President of the Pyatigorsk Volleyball Federation Viktor Razdobudko was the first to carry the Olympic Torch down Kirov Prospect.
Seventy-one people all in all will take part in the Olympic Torch relay in Pyatigorsk. The organizers of the ceremony mapped out a 15-kilometer route for the Olympic Torch relay to enable as many people as possible to watch the event. The torch bearers have been running in turn, replacing one another every 200- 250 meters.
The Pyatigorsk leg of the Olympic Torch Relay terminates on the central square in Pyatigorsk, where a podium for the Olympic Cup and five bright Olympic rings almost ten meters high, which symbolize the five continents, are on display.
Afterwards, the Olympic Torch Relay ceremony will be held in Stavropol.
