MOSCOW, January 10. /TASS/. /TASS/. Russian tennis star Daria Kasatkina is set to clash with Switzerland’s Timea Bacsinszky in the first round of the 2019 Australian Open, with $44.5 million in prize money up for grabs and runs from January 14 to 27.

The pairs for the opening round in women’s singles of this year’s first Grand Slam tennis tournament have been decided during the draw in Melbourne on Thursday.

Kasatkina currently holds 10th place in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) rankings and has been seeded respectively at the tournament. Eight more Russian female tennis players also learnt their pairings at the upcoming Grand Slam tournament following the draw on Thursday.

Maria Sharapova (seeded 30) and Margarita Gasparyan will each play against a qualifier in the opening round. Anastasia Potapova will face Pauline Parmentier of France; Anna Blinkova will meet Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic; Ekaterina Alexandrova is set to take on Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko (seeded 24th); Ekaterina Makarova will go head-to-head with Katie Boulter of the United Kingdom; Evgeniya Rodina will battle it out with Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic; Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will compete against Monica Puig of Puerto Rico.

World’s No. 1 Simona Halep of Romania will begin her journey for the 2019 Australian Open title with a game against Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi. Germany’s Angelique Kerber (seeded 2nd) will take on Slovenia’s Polona Hercog, while 16-seed Serena Williams of the United States is set for a duel with Germany’s Tatjana Maria.
