EDINBURGH, August 10. /TASS/. Russian divers Maria Polyakova and Nadezhda Bazhina won gold and silver respectively at the 2018 European Championships in women’s 1m springboard event at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Scotland’s Edinburgh on Friday.
Referees awarded 21-year-old Polyakova 285.55 points after her six attempts. Her teammate Bazhina chalked up 276 points to win the silver. Italy’s Elena Bertocchi executed all of her attempts to the sum of 271.25, which brought her a bronze medal.
The 2018 European Championship is the first multi-sport event uniting different European championships and is held between August 2 and 12 in Scotland’s Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as in Germany’s Berlin.
The European multi-event championship include competitions in such sports as swimming, open water swimming, synchronized swimming, track cycling, road cycling, mountain biking, BMX, rowing and triathlon, artistic gymnastics, athletics, diving, golf.
The Russian national team is currently in the top of the 2018 European Championships’ overall medals standings with 26 gold, 16 silver and 12 bronze (54 in total). Athletes from Great Britain are in second place with 51 medals (18 gold, 18 silver and 15 bronze) and the team from the Netherlands concludes the top-three with 32 medals (12 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze).
