COPENHAGEN, May 15. /TASS/. Russia will be placed against Canada at the 2018 Ice Hockey World Championship quarterfinal after losing 1:3 to Sweden in its final group stage game on Tuesday night.
The goals were scored by Mika Zibanejad (30th and 37th minute) and Mattias Ekholm (59th minute) of Sweden and by Kirill Kaprizov of Russia (third minute).
Russia is ranked second in the Group A with 16 points, which places it against Canada, currently number three in Group B. The Russia-Canada quarterfinal will be held in Copenhagen on May 17.
Sweden holds the top spot with 20 points. The Czech Republic is third with 15 points, followed by Switzerland (12 points), Slovakia (11 points). France (six points,) Austria (four points) and Belarus (0 points).
This is Sweden’s first World Championship victory over Russia in 14 years.
