IAAF strips Russian decathlete Pogorelov of 2009 World Championship bronze over doping

MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/. Russian athlete in decathlon Alexander Pogorelov was stripped of his 2009 World Championship bronze medal after he tested positive for consuming performance enhancing drugs, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) announced on Friday.

According to the IAAF, the Russian decathlete was slapped with a two-year suspension after the reanalysis of his doping test, collected at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in China’s Beijing.

The world’s governing athletics body ruled that Pogorelov’s suspension would be in force starting July 2, 2016 and until July 1, 2018.

The IAAF stated that all of his athletics results achieved in the period between August 23, 2008 and February 21, 2010 would be annulled, including his 2009 World Championship bronze.
