Russia’s fire death rate halved in last 5 years — Ministry of Emergency Situations

Number of people killed by fires in Russia has dropped 50% over the last five years

MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. Number of people killed by fires in Russia has dropped 50% over the last five years, said Acting Director of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations’ Fire Department Maxim Maximenko during Tuesday’s press conference.

"Over the last five years, the number of people killed in fires has dropped by half," he said, adding that in 2017, slightly more than 7,000 people were killed in blazes. "The numbers are becoming significantly lower. However, even with technical progress, the issue cannot be completely resolved," Maximemko added.
