Court prolongs detention of alarm system supplier in Kemerovo mall fire case

On March 28, the Zavodskoi District Court arrested Polozinenko for two months, until the end of May

KEMEROVO, April 6. /TASS/. A district court in the Siberian city of Kemerovo has ruled to keep Igor Polozinenko, the head of the Sistemny Integrator company, which was responsible for servicing the fire alarm system in a shopping mall where a fire killed 64 people in custody, a TASS correspondent reports from the courtroom.

"The court has ruled to leave the act of the Zavodskoi District Court unchanged, dismiss the appeal," Judge Dmitry Ezhov said.

On March 28, the Zavodskoi District Court arrested Polozinenko for two months, until May 25.

The fire occurred in Kemerovo’s shopping center on March 25. According to the latest statistics, it killed 64 people, including 41 children. Seven suspects have been arrested until May 25, 2018. Among them are the shopping mall’s tenant Nadezhda Suddenok, the technical director of the shopping mall’s owner company Georgy Sobolev, employee and director of the company that maintained the mall’s fire alarm system Alexander Nikitin, and private security company guard Sergei Antyushin, who, according to investigators, did not switch on the fire alarm system. A criminal investigation has been launched into negligent homicide, fire safety rules violations resulting in the death of two or more persons and the provision of services failing to meet safety requirements.
