Russian reconciliation center helps to release hostages in Eastern Ghouta

Since the active phase of the operation on evacuating extremists began, some 4,000 militants and their family members have left the Syrian town through a humanitarian corridor near Al-Wafideen

EASTERN GHOUTA/Syria/, April 5. /TASS/. Military of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Sides in Syria took part in an operation to free five persons held hostage by militants in Douma, in Eastern Ghouta, the center’s Head Gen. Yuri Yevtushenko said.

"With the assistance of our officers, five hostages have been freed who had been captured by militants of illegal armed groups in the town of Douma," Yevtushenko told reporters on Thursday.

Since the active phase of the operation on evacuating extremists began, some 4,000 militants and their family members have left the Syrian town through a humanitarian corridor near Al-Wafideen. Local citizens continue returning to the liberated settlements of Eastern Ghouta.

"The Syrian government forces with the assistance of the Russian Center for Reconciliation are clearing residential areas from explosives and solving high-priority tasks on restoring the infrastructure, which has been destroyed by militants," the general said.

Fresh water and hot meals are delivered to the settlements of Saqba, Kafr Batna, Beit Sawa, Misraba, Modiara and Khazze, and the citizens are receiving medical assistance, he noted.
