Blaze in Moscow nursing home leaves 16 injured, mayor says

A fire broke out in a nursing home in New Moscow

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin has reported that 16 people were injured in a fire in a nursing home in the village of Kartmazovo in the capital’s district of New Moscow.

"A fire broke out in a nursing home in New Moscow. According to preliminary information, 16 people were injured. They all are receiving medical treatment. I hope there won’t be any victims," he wrote on his Twitter page.

Sobyanin pledged that an internal probe would be conducted in the wake of the incident.

According to previous reports, firefighters extinguished the blaze in the nursing home, which broke out in the basement’s sauna in a 20 square meter area. Ahead of the firefighters’ arrival, 30 people were evacuated from the facility and seven more were rescued from the upper floor.
