Next Nureyev ballet performances to take Bolshoi’s stage in May 2018

The ballet was expected to premier at the historical stage of the Bolshoi Theater on July 11, 2017, but the theater’s authorities delayed the premier saying the show was not ready to run yet

MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. The Nureyev ballet directed by Kirill Serebrennikov and choreographed by Yury Posokhov, which is set to premiere at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theater on December 9-10, will be next performed in May 2018, Bolshoi Theater Director General Vladimir Urin said at a press briefing on Friday.

"According to the schedule, there will be performances in May," he said. The theater director noted that Yury Posokhov had resumed work on the show on November 15.

"Unfortunately, our request to let Serebrennikov participate in rehearsals has gone unanswered," Urin pointed out, adding that all the rehearsals "were agreed on with Serebrennikov."

"Wish us luck tomorrow," Urin said. "We hope that the audience will be interested in seeing the premier," he added.

Composer Ilya Demutsky, choreographer Yury Posokhov, as well as director, scriptwriter and scene designer Kirill Serebrennikov, who has been charged with fraud and is currently under house arrest, worked to create the show last season.

The ballet was expected to premier at the historical stage of the Bolshoi Theater on July 11, 2017, but the theater’s authorities delayed the premier saying the show was not ready to run yet.
