MOSCOW, December 2. /TASS/. The Russian Orthodox Church vows to provide support to Orthodox Christians in Syria and hopes peace will come to that country, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia said on Saturday at a closing session of the Bishops’ Council.

"Everything we do, we do with humility and with complete certainty that we need to share resources with those who are suffering today," Patriarch Kirill said. "We believe that durable and fair peace will set in in Syria and we believe in a total victory over terrorism, in liberation of the Syrian people from that formidable yoke."

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church thanked visiting Patriarch John of Antioch and All the East for his efforts and wished him strength and health to carry on with his ministry.

Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, convened every four year, is the supreme authority of the church’s hierarchical control. In 2017, the Bishops’ Council was held between November 29 and December 2, bringing together about 400 bishops from 22 countries.
