Tackling environmental issues will take decades, presidential envoy says

There are numerous problems which need to be solved, Putin's envoy for environmental issues says

MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. Russia continues to be an environmental donor of the planet, although the country still has many problems, which will require decades of work, Russian Presidential Envoy for Environmental Issues, Sergey Ivanov, said at the Eco World international environmental award presentation ceremony in Russia’s State Duma (lower house of parliament).

"Russia has quite a few unresolved environmental problems, despite the fact that we, fortunately, remain the planet’s environmental donor," he said. "We have numerous problems, and they have to be solved."

He explained that the problems are related to the situation with solid domestic waste, the purity of rivers and lakes in the country and air quality in some cities.

"In general, there is plenty of work for decades to come," he concluded.
