Patriarch Kirill I says Egypt mosque attack dispels myth about faithful militants

Kirill I stressed the importance of solidarity of the followers of traditional religions in the defense of the ideals of good and justice

MOSCOW, November 25. /TASS/. Friday’s attack on the mosque in Egypt dispels the myth about the faithfulness of terrorists to Islam, the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill I said in a message of condolences to the President of Egypt.

"The slaughter of believers during prayer shows the extremists who call themselves Moslems do not have any connection with the faith in the Almighty," he said. "The fact dispels the myth the terrorists try to impose on others, claiming they defend Islam and struggle for its purity."

Kirill I stressed the importance of solidarity of the followers of traditional religions in the defense of the ideals of good and justice.

"In these mournful days, I wish an earliest possible recovery to the wounded, courage in getting over grief to the families and friends of the dead, consolidation of strength to those who are working today to overcome what has happened, as well as unity and resolve in fighting the extremism to the entire people of Egypt," he said.

Coordinated attack on al-Rawdah mosque in Sinai occurred during the Friday noon prayer where resident of the town had come with their whole families.

The terrorists drove up to the mosque on four off-roaders. First, they set off an explosive device amid hundreds of praying believers and then opened sporadic fire when the panicking people tried to get away from the site.

The number of casualties reached 235.
