NEW YORK, February 27. /TASS/. Viola Davis was awarded Oscar on Sunday night for the best Actress In A Supporting Role category for her role in ‘Fences.’

Besides the Viola Davis the other nominees in this category were Naomie Harris ‘Moonlight,’ Nicole Kidman ‘Lion,’ Octavia Spencer ‘Hidden Figures and Michelle Williams ‘Manchester by the Sea.’

The 89th Academy Awards is held on the night of February 26 in the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and is broadcast by ABC. The ceremony is aired in 225 countries, including Russia. 

Best screenplay 

Kenneth Lonergan was awarded the 2017 in Writing Original Screenplay category for the film ‘Manchester by the Sea.’

The other nominees in this category were Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water). Damien Chazelle (La La Land), Yorgos Lanthimos, Efthimis Filippou (The Lobster) and Mike Mills (20th Century Women).
